Criminal Law

“A criminal prosecution is one of the most stressful times of your life. You are entitled to the best defense possible and an accessible, responsive and understanding attorney. That’s what I strive to be. My philosophy is simple:”

“I try to be the attorney that I would want to go to.”

There are a few events in your life as traumatic as being charged with a crime. Regardless of the reason it’s a big deal to you and something you take seriously.

The Stress of a Criminal Charge

The strain on your life can be tremendous. You have to pay bond money to get out of jail, then you have to scramble and find money to hire an attorney. The judge is scaring you to death with talk of large fines if convicted and time in jail. All your plans for the future have to be put on hold until the case is over.

Be Calm with Attorney Kay Representing You

You can help reduce the stress by hiring an experienced criminal lawyer. An experienced felony attorney will be familiar with the judges and the local courthouses. With an office in Herrin, Daniel Kay, Attorney at Law is centrally located to the county seats in Benton, Marion, Murphysboro, and Harrisburg. Daniel Kay has been practicing criminal law for almost twenty years and knows these courtrooms well. Whether it’s aggravated battery, residential burglary, retail theft or any other criminal charge you need to have an experienced criminal lawyer working for you.

My Experience on Both Sides of Criminal Law

For the past 15 years I have spent considerable time both as a prosecutor and defense attorney.  As an Assistant Attorney General it was my job to review investigations, reports, witness statements, etc. and figure out the best way to construct a winning case.  As a Senior Defense Attorney with the Army Reserve JAG Corps, and before that as a Public Defender it was my job to figure out how to tear a criminal case apart.  After a while, you get to be pretty good at it.

I want you to be able to relax and know that your case is being taken care of in the best way possible, so I’m virtually always available when you need me. If you call the number that’s on this page and the front door of my office, you get me – it’s my cellphone number.

Criminal charges bring extreme uncertainty and difficulty into your life. This is why I maintain an “artisan” practice where I see a limited number of clients. My clients get my time and I customize my service for each of my clients. I respect those differences and you’ll find that I deliver a level of accessibility that is rare among attorneys today.
